The Role
The Business Development Director is a senior commercial leadership role responsible for driving revenue growth, account expansion, and strategic partnerships across Europe, with a particular focus on the DACH region.
This role combines hands-on business development with strategic leadership, overseeing key client relationships, shaping go-to-market strategies, and translating market trends into compelling commercial opportunities. The Business Development Director will play a pivotal role in strengthening the consultancy’s market position and supporting successful market access and reimbursement outcomes for innovative health technologies.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Account Growth
Lead commercial development of new and existing client accounts, including targeting, account strategy, and opportunity progression
Own proposal development and pitch delivery, ensuring high-quality, competitive, and commercially viable submissions
Build and maintain strong senior-level client relationships, acting as a trusted commercial and strategic partner
Identify opportunities for organic growth within existing accounts in collaboration with delivery leadership
Strategic & Market Leadership
Translate market trends, HTA developments, and regulatory changes into actionable insights for proposals and growth strategy
Serve as Strategic Lead and Product Owner for key German market access and pricing initiatives, where required
Advise clients on early access, commercial strategy, and partnership models aligned to market access objectives
Support corporate development initiatives including market analysis, competitive intelligence, and go-to-market strategy
Collaboration & Delivery Oversight
Work closely with marketing, technical experts, project managers, and delivery teams throughout the opportunity lifecycle
Oversee client onboarding and early project coordination, ensuring timelines, budgets, and quality standards are met
Anticipate and mitigate risks during scoping, pricing, and proposal development phases
Contribute selectively to billable work focused on commercial strategy or early access, aligned with experience and client need
Thought Leadership & Brand Building
Represent the organisation externally at international conferences, industry events, and professional associations
Lead or contribute to webinars, presentations, and other initiatives to enhance market visibility and reputation
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in life sciences, business, communications, or a related discipline
Fluent in German and English, with the ability to engage confidently with senior stakeholders
Minimum 5 years’ experience in business development, market access, commercial strategy, or consulting within the European pharmaceutical or healthcare sector
Strong understanding of European pharmaceutical and biotech markets, including HTA, regulatory, and market access landscapes
Proven track record of driving revenue growth, developing client relationships, and delivering against commercial targets
Strong strategic and analytical mindset, with the ability to translate complex market dynamics into compelling value propositions
Excellent negotiation, presentation, and stakeholder management skills
High level of financial acumen to ensure commercially sound proposals and account profitability
