The Role
The Director of Market Access is a senior leadership role combining strategic ownership, client delivery excellence, and business growth responsibility. This position plays a critical role in shaping the direction of the market access offering while remaining actively involved in complex client engagements.
The Director will oversee key client accounts, lead high-impact market access projects, drive innovation in methodologies and technology-enabled delivery, and contribute to the development of people, capabilities, and culture. While the role has a strong focus on the German/DACH market, it also carries European influence and responsibility, working closely with colleagues and clients across multiple geographies.
Key Responsibilities
Client & Account Leadership
Own and manage senior client relationships across pharmaceutical and biotechnology accounts
Ensure high levels of client satisfaction, repeat engagements, and long-term partnerships
Act as a trusted strategic advisor to senior client stakeholders
Strategic Project Leadership
Lead or advise on complex market access engagements, including German and European-level initiatives (e.g. AMNOG, EU HTA, pricing and reimbursement strategy)
Maintain accountability for quality, scope, timelines, and commercial performance
Ensure consistent delivery standards across projects and teams
Embed agile ways of working, including planning, prioritisation, and cross-functional collaboration
Drive innovation in market access methodologies, including the use of advanced analytics and AI-enabled tools
Business Development & Growth
Lead proposal development, pitches, and opportunity management to expand existing accounts and secure new business
Collaborate closely with business development colleagues to identify growth opportunities
Build a strong personal and organizational reputation within the market
Portfolio & Corporate Development
Define and evolve the market access portfolio vision
Drive innovation pipelines and service transformation initiatives
Ensure strategic alignment between the German business and wider European consulting strategy
People Leadership & Capability Building
Lead, mentor, and develop consulting teams, fostering a strong feedback and performance culture
Act as a talent coach, supporting individual development, training, and career progression
Oversee project staffing, utilization, and retention across teams
Qualifications
Master’s degree in life sciences, medicine, pharmacy, health economics, or a related business discipline
Fluent in German and English, with the ability to communicate confidently at senior stakeholder level, additional languages are a benefit too
Minimum 5 years’ experience in market access or market access consulting within the German and broader European healthcare environment
Strong expertise in German market access frameworks, including AMNOG, alongside a solid understanding of European HTA, pricing, and reimbursement pathways
In-depth knowledge of the German healthcare system, with exposure to international or EU-level projects preferred
Proven track record of managing complex client relationships, delivering high-quality projects, and supporting business growth
Recognised or emerging thought leader in market access, with the ability to translate complex topics into clear, compelling client solutions
