Senior Account Manager

London

Permanent

The Job

The Opportunity

Our client is a global healthcare communications agency working at the forefront of medical affairs, clinical studies, real-world evidence, marketing, advocacy, and communications. With an international footprint spanning multiple continents and a heritage stretching back over two decades, they combine deep scientific expertise with creative strategy to drive meaningful change in healthcare.

They are now seeking a Senior Account Manager to join their London-based team. This is a senior, client-facing role for someone who can act as a trusted advisor to clients, lead the delivery of healthcare communications programmes at a strategic level, and take on line management responsibilities.

The Role

As Senior Account Manager, you will hold increasing responsibility across account management, client relations, and both people and financial management, collaborating closely with senior colleagues to deliver effective and impactful communication strategies. You will offer strategic counsel, position yourself as a trusted advisor to clients, and be accountable for delivering healthcare communications programmes that consistently exceed client expectations, all while managing a diverse array of competing client priorities.

Key Responsibilities

Accountability

  • Contribute to the overall financial health of the business through effective client and team management, counsel, and high-quality delivery

  • Adapt to each client's working style and preferred channels, providing proactive, clear, and concise communication across the team

  • Assist mid-level client leads in communicating with clients on urgent matters to resolve issues promptly

  • Invest time in developing team members through line management and coaching, proactively providing open and constructive feedback

  • Explore project leadership opportunities at both client and agency level, demonstrating strategic and lateral thinking

Client Services

  • Build trusted client relationships and be established as the key client contact, delivering to a high standard and resolving issues in a timely manner

  • Respond to strategic-level queries and proactively provide strategic counsel, with the support of the senior team

  • Lead and drive the tactical planning process, ensuring strategic alignment and effective execution of client projects

  • Identify opportunities to expand existing client work and engage in internal and external new business networking, pursuing potential leads

  • Build awareness of relevant industry regulations (e.g. ABPI/EFPIA), GDPR, and trends to enable high-quality, compliant project management.

Project Management

  • Develop, discuss, and refine project briefs with clients to budget and scope projects appropriately

  • Develop, manage, and reconcile budgets, leading client discussions on out-of-scope work and overspend with senior support

  • Continuously evaluate and enhance internal processes, proposing innovative solutions to streamline operations

  • Oversee project timelines and status reports, troubleshooting timeline challenges and working with clients to adjust scope and delivery

  • Supervise work completed by junior team members to ensure a consistently high standard of quality

People Management

  • Take on line management responsibility for at least one team member

  • Work closely with senior leads to understand team needs, assign tasks, and provide feedback as appropriate

  • Lead team discussions and decisions, consolidating opinions and ideas into clear recommendations for clients

  • Foster an inclusive team environment where all members are recognised for their contributions

  • Demonstrate an ability to manage upwards, knowing when to keep the senior team updated and when to seek their input

What You'll Need

  • A minimum of 3 years account management experience within a healthcare communications, medical communications, or healthcare PR agency

  • A track record of acting as a trusted client advisor, providing strategic counsel and delivering programmes that exceed expectations

  • Strong financial management skills, including budgeting, forecasting, and leading client conversations on scope and overspend

  • Line management or mentoring experience with junior team members

  • Experience contributing to new business — proposals, credentials, and identifying growth within existing accounts

  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise, delegate, and manage multiple accounts simultaneously

  • Working knowledge of industry regulations (e.g. ABPI/EFPIA) and GDPR

What's on Offer

  • 5% employer pension contribution

  • Private medical insurance (for you and your family)

  • Critical Illness and Income Protection cover

  • Travel insurance (for you and your family)

  • Annual wellness benefit (after 3 months' service)

  • Hybrid working (3 days per week in the London office)

  • 25 days' holiday, rising to 30 days with length of service, plus bank holidays

  • Life assurance at 4x salary

  • Paid sabbaticals after 5 years' service

  • 1 week per year dedicated to learning and development
