The Job
Company Overview
Our client is an established, independent consultancy specialising in health economics and outcomes research. Its work spans patient-centred research, epidemiology, evidence synthesis and health economics. It helps life science companies build the evidence they need at every stage, from clinical development through to regulatory approval, HTA and reimbursement.
Their clients include pharmaceutical, biotechnology and wider life science organisations that need robust, decision-ready evidence on what matters to patients. The team brings together qualitative researchers, epidemiologists, health economists, statisticians and technical specialists, and works alongside an extensive network of academic and clinical experts.
The business operates in a collaborative, science-led environment where senior experts lead the work directly. Team members are encouraged to share ideas, develop their methodological expertise and contribute to the growth of the practices they work in.
The Role
The Senior Director, Patient-Centred Research is a true senior leadership position combining scientific oversight with client leadership, business development and team development. The patient-centred research portfolio is substantial and varied. It covers the full use of patient-centred research within HEOR, so this is not a role focused on one narrow area.
The Senior Director will guide work across qualitative interviews and analysis, surveys, discrete choice experiments and patient-reported outcomes, all applied in an HEOR context to support HTA, reimbursement and wider healthcare decision making. Acting as both a trusted scientific adviser and a people leader, they will play a central role in shaping the methods, strategy and long-term growth of the practice.
The role is best suited to someone whose patient-centred research experience has been built in HEOR consulting, rather than in a market research setting or a mainly regulatory PRO setting.
Key Responsibilities
Provide senior scientific oversight across a broad portfolio of patient-centred research projects, leading specific studies where required
Lead qualitative research, including interview design, data collection and thematic or content analysis
Contribute scientific direction to survey and discrete choice experiment studies, working alongside quantitative colleagues who lead the analysis
Oversee PRO work applied within HEOR, supporting value demonstration, HTA and reimbursement evidence
Advise clients on patient-centred evidence generation strategy, recommending the right approach to meet their development, access and HTA objectives
Act as a senior point of contact for clients, leading strategic discussions and building long-term partnerships
Drive business development, including proposal development, project scoping and building new client relationships
Provide senior quality review of client deliverables, publications, conference abstracts and presentations
Line manage, mentor and develop Directors, Associate Directors and wider team members, supporting performance and career progression
Shape scientific strategy and the long-term growth of the patient-centred research practice
Qualifications
MSc or PhD in Epidemiology, Health Economics, Statistics, Biostatistics, Public Health or a related field, or equivalent experience
Minimum of 10 years’ health research experience, ideally within HEOR consultancy, or within an academic environment
Proven experience leading patient-centred research projects within an HEOR setting, ideally in consulting
Breadth across patient-centred research study types, including qualitative research, surveys, discrete choice experiments and PROs used in HEOR
Strong hands-on qualitative research expertise
Working familiarity with survey and DCE study design. Quantitative analysis skills for these studies are not required
Senior leadership experience at Director or Senior Director level, including line management and team development
Excellent client management skills, with the ability to communicate with both scientific and commercial stakeholders
Commercial awareness and a track record contributing to business development and proposals
Strong judgement, organisation and prioritisation skills across multiple concurrent projects
The Offer
Senior leadership role with genuine influence over the scientific direction of a growing practice
A broad, varied portfolio covering the full range of patient-centred research in HEOR
Permanent, full-time position with flexibility on location across major Canadian city hubs
Multidisciplinary environment alongside epidemiology, evidence synthesis and health economics experts
Access to an extensive network of academic and clinical collaborators
Clear people leadership remit, building and developing a high-calibre team
